Missouri is bracing for a winter storm that is expected to hit southern Missouri hardest, tapering off in central and northern Missouri. The National Weather Service says the harshest portion of the storm will travel roughly along Interstate 44 from Joplin, through Springfield and on to St. Louis. Portions of southern Missouri report two to four inches in the early part of the afternoon. Forecasters say up to a foot of snow could fall in portions of southern Missouri before the storm ends tomorrow. Winter storm warnings are in effect for southern Missouri. A winter weather advisory is either in effect or soon to be in effect in the rest of the state, though accumulations are expected to diminish greatly in the northern part of the state. The Weather Service does say that once the storm goes through the state, the weather should once again be calm and dry.
