Chiefs Stay Alive With Big Plays

December 23, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

The Chiefs roller coaster of a ride season, provided more twists and turns on Sunday. Kansas City topped the Chargers 24-22 at Arrowhead, thanks to Michael Husted’s 38-yard field goal with 1:08 to go. Husted was brought in to replace Morten Andersen who’s been put on injured reserve. But there was plenty of excitement leading up to Husted’s heroics. Trent Green hit Marc Boerigter for a 99-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. Husted’s extra point gave Kansas City a 21-6 lead. But the defense allowed 16 points straight points before the Chiefs took the late lead. But the Chargers were driving with :43 to go when Shaunard Harts forced a fumble with his hit on Reche Caldwell. Gary Stills recovered and the Chiefs held on to win. They’re now 8-7. The Chiefs can make the playoffs as a Wild Card if they can beat Oakland on Saturday and get help on Sunday. They’ll also need the Cardinals to beat the Broncos and they’ll need either the Patriots or Jets to also lose. New England will face Miami and New York takes on Green Bay.
