Cards Sign Two Pitchers, May Trade For Another

December 19, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

The Cardinals signed a pair of 35 year old pitchers to minor league contracts. Cal Eldred and Lance Painter both missed the 2002 with elbow problems. Each has undergone the Tommy John surgery. The Cardinals may also be interested in trading for Russ Ortiz who was recently traded to the Braves. If Greg Maddux re-signs with Atlanta, they may be interested in dealing him. Fernando Vina could be the trade bait.
