The Blues were taken behind the woodshed Tuesday night with a 6-2 beating at the hands of the Kings. St. Louis never led in the game. Jaroslav Modry and Keith Tkachuk traded goals in the first for a 1-1 tie at the first intermission. But the Kings exploded for three goals against goaltender Brent Johnson in the second. Scott Mellanby made it 3-2 with a goal at the 4:42 mark of the third, but the Kings added two more before the end of the game. The loss combined with Detroit’s 2-2 tie with the Islanders leaves St. Louis two points behind the Red Wings in the Central Division.
