Missouri Tourism Campaign Seems To Be Paying Off

December 17, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

A campaign by the Division of Tourism to get more Missourians to get to know their own state better seems to be paying off. State Tourism officials are crediting the “Rediscover Your Missouri” campaign with an increase in the number of visitors stopping by the state’s six Welcome Centers. The number of visits to the centers has already exceeded last year’s total with one month still to count. Tourism spokesman Tracey Berry says the campaign encourages Missourians to travel in their own backyard. The trend is an encouraging one to state officials who have had little good news to go on. Missouri tourism is a $13-Billion industry, that is a revenue-generator for a state budget that has been slumping badly the last few years.
