Congressman Richard Gephardt of St. Louis does not comment on his own plans as he praises former Vice PresidentAl Gore’s record of service to the Democratic Party. Gore has announced he will not run for President in two years. Gephardt calls Gore “one of the most decent public servants I’ve ever had the privilege to work with.” Gephardt supporters say Gore’s withdrawal from the field opens things up for other democrats, including Gephardt. Gephardt stepped down as House Minority Leader earlier this year and has been talking with allies in New Hampshire and Iowa. But aides say he has not yet decided whether to jump into the contest.
