Coaches always say you should never make excuses after a loss. But if there was ever a reason for not playing well, the Blues had it. Six players didn’t suit up because of a mysterious illness believed to be food poisoning. Four Blues played sick in a 2-0 loss to the Devils. For a while Head Coach Joel Quenneville wasn’t sure if he was going to have enough forwards to play the game. Blues Broadcaster Kelly Chase was being considered as a temporary replacement. Quenneville said he would have put on a uniform if it were absolutely necessary. Though nothing’s certain, the team believes the bug was picked up in Detroit where a number of Red Wings are also sick.
