A former Arkansas lawyer accused of stealing six William Faulkner letters from Southeast Missouri State University has surrendered in Arkansas. Authorities in Cape Girardeau will take actions to get Robert Hardin Smith to Missouri to face charges. The charges were filed two weeks ago. The letters by the famous author are valued at $25,000. They have been recovered. The theft came to light when one of the letters was offered for sale on the Internet. Smith has previous convictions for stealing historic documents.
