Former Tiger, U.S. Record-Holder Dies

Former discus record-holder Ben Plucknett died Sunday at his home in Essex, Missouri. Plucknett was a letter winner at the University of Missouri from 1973-1976 and was inducted into MU’s hall of fame in 2000. Plucknett made the 1980 Olympic team, but was didn’t compete when the U.S. decided to boycott the Moscow games. The next year, Plucknett broke the world discus record twice. His throw of 237 feet and seven inches was the worlds best until 1986. Ben Plucknett was 48 years old.
