Time is running out for William Jones, who is scheduled to be executed just after midnight tonight at the Potosi Prison for the 1986 shooting death of a homosexual acquaintance in Kansas City. He’s successfully used the courts to delay lethal injection for almost 17 years but his appeals are now all but exhausted. Jones’ sister, Kathy Norton, insists her brother did not receive a fair trial because his lawyers were incompetent. Norton claims her brother’s trial lawyers never gave any consideration to the penalty phase of the trial until after the jury had convicted her brother. She says members of the jury never had a chance to see her brother as a human who should have the right to live.
