Health Department Out To Increase Awareness Of Lupus

November 18, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

The State Health Department wants to do something to increase awareness about the disease lupus. Mary Ellen Ankeney of the Department’s Arthritis and Ostoporosis Program says symptoms include joint swelling, joint and muscle pains, extreme fatigue, and skin rashes. She adds people showing these symptoms should see a doctor. Ankeney says lupus, which causes the immune system to attack the body’s own healthy tissue and organs, disproportionately affects women.
