Chiefs’ running back Priest Holmes was named the AFC offensive player of the month yesterday. Holmes was virtually unstoppable in his four games in October. He rushed for 419 yards and scored six touchdowns on the ground and caught 29 passes for an additional 308 yards and a touchdown. Holmes averaged 182 total yards per game. The last Chief to win the award was running back Barry Word in 1991. Christian Okoye also won it that season and Steve DeBerg won it in 1990. They’re the only Chiefs to be awarded with the AFC offensive player of the month since it was instituted in 1990.
