Cardinal catcher Mike Matheny underwent athroscopic surgery on his right shoulder yesterday. He’d been bothered by shoulder discomfort this season. Doctors don’t expect Matheny to have any ill effects as a result of the procedure once spring training rolls around. He’s the third Redbird to go under the knife this off season. Reliever Jason Isringhausen also underwent shoulder surgery and outfielder J.D. Drew had a procedure on his knee. Matheny hit .357 for the Cardinals this post season.
