With just over a week to go before Election Day, the group Missourians Against Unfair Taxes is working hard to defeat Proposition A. Spokesman Ron Spidle says the 55-cent per pack tax on cigarettes unfairly targets Missouri smokers, estimated to be one in four adults. Spidle also questions whether the money raised will actually go for health-related purposes. The proposition is estimated to raise more than $342-Million dollars annually. The current state tax in Missouri is 17-cents a pack. Spidle argues such a big jump in the tobacco tax will hurt the state economy.
