Governor Bob Holden and Attorney General Jay Nixon are asking the Legislature for major reforms in state nursing home laws. Their recommendations come after a week-long series of stories in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. They say it should be easier for prosecutors to go after abusive nursing homes, and that enforcement of the laws should be more consistent. A spokesman for the nursing home industry tells the Post-Dispatch major reforms would not be needed if present laws and regulatlions were uniformly applied.
