For the second straight week, the Chiefs had a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter and lost. Early in the fourth, Priest Holmes scored his third touchdown of the game and Morten Andersen’s extra point gave Kansas City a 34-20 advantage. The Broncos weren’t ready to roll over. They sandwiched two touchdowns around a Morten Andersen missed field goal to send it to OT. The failed field goal snapped a string of 25 straight perfect attempts, which tied Andersen’s personal best. It also made him the NFL all-time leader in attempts. In overtime, both teams stalled in their opening drives. The Chiefs had a punt blocked to give Denver the ball on the Kansas City 33. Eric Warfield was called for a 22-yard pass interference penalty, to set up Jason Elam’s 25-yard game winner. Shannon Shape’s 12 receptions netted 214 yards, setting a single-game yardage record for tight ends. Priest Holmes rushed for 113 yards. The Chiefs fell to 3-4 on the season.
