St. Louis area leaders demand the State Transportation Commission keep its allocation of highway money the same or they might look to form an urban coalition to raise money to address urban needs. St. Louis County Executive Buzz Westfall denies they have issued a threat. Westfall asserts St. Louis provides nearly 40-percent of the state tax base and its leaders won’t accept anything less than 33-percent of Missouri’s transportation money. Missouri Farm Bureau President Charlie Kruse doesn’t believe transportation spending should be based on percentages. Kruse says the commission has some tough decisions ahead and must make the right ones to restore credibility in the Transportation Department.
