D-II Game Expected to Set Attendance Mark

October 17, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

In 1977 UNLV traveled to Boise St. and a crowd of 20,575 gathered to watch the best-attended Division II football game ever. 25 years later, both of those teams are in Division I and two of today’s D-2 powerhouses will most likely break that attendance record. Northwest Missouri State and Pittsburg State will square off at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City tonight. Just over 21,000 tickets have been sold and the walk up purchases are expected to surpass the unofficial record. It’s considered a home game for Northwest because it was originally scheduled to take place at Rickenbrode Stadium in Maryville. The stadium is undergoing a $5-million renovation and couldn’t hold the large crowd that’s expected for the game. NWMSU enters the contest with a 6-0 mark overall and a #5 ranking in this weeks poll. PSU is 5-1 and ranked 11th.
