It’s still dry in Missouri, incredibly dry in some spots. One expert is becoming increasingly worried. Four months of dought in much of western Missouri drought that has begun to stretch into west-central and southwest Missouri. University of Missouri Climatologist Pat Guinan says some portions of western Missouri are eight to eleven inches of rain below normal. The corn crop in some parts of northwest Missouri was ruined. The soybean harvest in southwest Missouri is well below normal. Pastures are burning up. Ponds are drying up. There are pockets of dryness throughout the rest of the state, excpet for the Bootheel which so far has escaped the drought. Guinan doesn’t hold out much hope that heavy snows will replenish moisture. He says scattered October showers put a dent in the drought, but fell far short of making up for the rainfall losses the state has experienced this year.
