Blues Win First of the Season

October 16, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

The Blues earned their first “W” of the season with a 2-1 overtime win over the Hurricanes. Rookie Defenseman Tom Koivisto scored the game winner with 1:11 to go in OT. Alexander Khavanov tied the game at one apiece with a goal in the third period. Goalie Rheinhart Divis earned the win in his first start, stopping 28 of 29 Carolina shots. Divis is the first Austrian-born player to start a game in the NHL. The win upped the Blues record to 1-1-1 on the season. The game attracted a mere 13,222, the lowest attendance in over five years. The Blues finish off a season-opening five-game home stand with a contest against the Blue Jackets on Thursday and a date with the Stars on Saturday.
