For Missourians who filed their 2001 income tax returns by April 15th, taxes probably aren’t even on the radar screen this time of year. But, for the 30,000 Missourians who filed for extensions – first in April and then again in August – today is the deadline to file those forms. Bill Barksdale with the Internal Revenue Service in St. Louis says missing today’s deadline could mean big problems, such as fines, in the future. Barksdale says taxpayers requesting extensions are often those with somewhat complicated returns, people who need the extra time to prepare their returns accurately.
