Jamie McMurray wasn’t supposed to win this quickly. In fact, he wasn’t even supposed to be on the track yet. The Joplin native made just his second Winston Cup start yesterday and came away with the win at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. McMurray is filling in for Sterling Marlin, whose season ended with an injury at Kansas Motor Speedway a couple of weeks ago. No driver has ever won his first race quicker in NASCAR’s modern era. In his Busch career, which has spanned 64 races, McMurray has never taken the checkered flag. He’s the fourth first-time winner this season. Four other Missourians raced yesterday, including the Wallace brothers of St. Louis. Rusty finished fifth, Mike was 17th, and Kenny took 25th. Ken Schrader of Fenton was 31st.
