The State Insurance Department is deciding whether to accept a big settlement with one of the country’s biggest consumer lending companies. Household Finance has agreed to pay several states almost one-half billion dollars to settle three years of disputes. It’s the biggest consumer credit settlement in American history. State Finance Director Eric McClure says the state is considering whether to be part of that settlement or whether it should opt into the settlement. If it does, the state will decide how the money should be returned to consumers.
