State Plans To Keep Funeral Homes Away From Taxes Collected In Error

October 9, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

State Treasurer Nancy Farmer and Attorney General Jay Nixon say funeral homes should not be allowed to keep sales taxes they’ll get back from the state. The state erroneously collected the sales taxes on caskets, burial vaults, and concrete grave liners. Farmer and Nixon say the funeral homes should give the money to the families that paid the bills. Farmer says her unclaimed property division will claim the money and try to find people who should get it if funeral homes do not.
