Blues to Play Pre-Season Game in KC

October 8, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Kansas City hockey fans will get a taste of the NHL next year. The Blues and Blackhawks have agreed to play a pre-season game at Kemper Auditorium next September. A group called NHL 21 is trying to lure a franchise to Kansas City. The city’s recent history with hockey has been disappointing. The minor league Kansas City Blades ceased play when the International Hockey league folded and the American Hockey League didn’t pick up the team. Kansas City’s only NHL team, the Blades played just two seasons before leaving for Denver after the 75-76 campaign. That team eventually became the New Jersey Devils.
