One of the most powerful civic groups in St. Louis will put pressure on the State Transportation Department to keep spending money in the St. Louis area the same as it is now. The East-West Gateway Coordinating Council says the Department’s plans to focus more on maintaining the present road system than on building new roads is wrong and would cost the St. Louis area as much as $75-Million a year in transportation funding. A spokesman for MoDOT says the new plans would mean less money for St. Louis but he says all parts of the state want more and the failure of proposition B last month means there won’t be “more.”
