Despite being strapped for funds, the Missouri Department of Transportation won’t ask for more money from the 1992 gas tax. Out of that six cents a gallon, MoDOT only receives about two cents. Legislative Affairs Director Jay Wunderlich says MoDOT has no plans, at least for now, of asking the Legislature to increase the agency’s share of that gas tax. Wunderlich says if MoDOT got a bigger share, some other state agencies that depend on the gas tax money would end up shorted. However, he does not rule out possibility of asking for a larger share in the future.
