The debate over debates in Missouri’s U.S. Senate isn’t about to end soon. The sides have all but formally agreed to go at it October 24th in Columbia. But, that could be the only debate in this race. The Carnahan Campaign has proposed a debate October 21st in St. Louis. Talent for Senate Campaign Manager Lloyd Smith says that’s fine, provided there’s agreement on a debate October 6th in Springfield, and he rejects arguments Senator Carnahan can’t leave Washington while Congress is in session. Tony Wyche of the Carnahan for Senate Campaign says the Talent forces are insisting on a Springfield debate on October 6th to avoid other debates on important issues. With less than six weeks to go before Election Day the sides appear to be digging in their heels, offering little hope of compromise.
