The State Board of Mediation is in the midst of a two-day hearing in Jefferson City to address union allegations regarding the election that saw Corrections Department employees voting overwhelmingly to reject The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) as their bargaining unit. Buddy Gray, a pro-AFSCME employee at the prison in Cameron, testified management at his facility ordered employees to distribute literature that was negative to AFSCME. The claim being made is that an anti-union atmosphere and intimidation led to the eventual result in the vote which saw more than 2,800 employees vote to reject AFSCME and just over 1,500 vote to keep it. It was a mail-in election.
