The State Health Department has received its smallpox vaccine guidelines from the federal government and is ready to act in the event of a smallpox outbreak. Pam Walker, Director of the Department’s Center for Emergency Response and Terrorism, says health officials in this state had already been working on a vaccination plan. Under the plan, vaccinations clinics would be set up throughout the state in hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities. The cost of the vaccination effort would be taken care of by the state and federal governments. Walker insists that in the event of an outbreak there would be plenty of vaccine available.
