The City of St. Louis is scrambling to keep the Cardinals down town. Mayor Francis Slay says there is a proposal on the table that would reduce the city’s tax on tickets from 12.6% to 5.3 %, which is the average for Major League Baseball teams. Slay also said the city would try to round up private investors to help pay for a new baseball stadium. Earlier this week, Cards owner Mark Lamping said Illinois Governor George Ryan and other state leaders were close to a deal that would pay for a new stadium in Illinois.
