The Cardinals beat the Rockies last night with a late surge. With the score tied at 3, St. Louis scored five runs in the top of the ninth to beat the Rockies 8-5. Scott Rolen had two home runs, driving in three. He has 27 dingers and 102 RBI’s. Tino Martinez, Edgar Renteria, and Ivan Cruz also went deep. Rick White was the winner in relief, but starter Andy Benes pitched well. He allowed one run over six innings. Steve Kline relieved Dave Veres, who allowed two ninth inning runs. Kline got his 6th save. The Astros topped the Brewers last night to keep pace with the Redbirds. Any combination of four Cardinal wins or Astros losses will give the Birds the N.L. Central crown.
