Royals Biggest Fan Dies

September 18, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

The Royals most loyal fan has died. Joe Hess Jr. got to Kauffman Stadium at 3:00 for home games. He sat in the same seat for every one of those games for 22 years. He died this weekend at the age of 82. Hess was known as Santa Claus because he had a long white beard. When the Royals did away with general admission seating, Hess was allowed to keep his spot at section 144, row J, seat 1. The Royals will honor Hess with a plaque in his memory behind the seat. They’ll honor a moment of silence before Friday’s game.
