A seven-run eighth inning put it away for the Cardinals as they beat the Rockies 11-4 on Tuesday night. The rally broke a 4-4 tie. Tino Martinez drove in the final four runs with a grand slam. It was his 19th homer of the year. Scott Rolen drove in two runs with a home run in the first. He has 26 dingers and 99 ribbies this year. Albert Pujols drove in three, he has 188 runs batted in. Jeff Fassero was the winner in relief. Chuck Finley started, but didn’t get the win. He was charged with all four Colorado runs. St. Louis’ magic number was cut to five. The Astros lost 5-4 to the Brewers, giving the Cardinals a seven and a half game lead in the National League Central with 12 games to go.
