AFL-CIO President John Sweeney wants his union members to vote their pocketbooks. Sweeney is in St. Louis as the union leaders meet for three days on a variety of issues, with politics dominating. Sweeney says union members need to back candidates who will attack what he calls the corporate crime wave that threatens worker pay and benefits. Though Sweeney says the AFL-CIO backs candidates from both major parties, it’s overwhelmingly siding with Democrats in Missouri. Every Democrat holding statewide office is slated to address the group.
