Royals Lose in Extra Innings

The Royals lost 16-9 to the Mariners in extra innings. Kansas City rallied for three runs in the ninth inning to tie it up at 8-8. In the 11th, John Olrerud hit a three run homer and Ben Davis added a grand slam as Seattle scored eight runs in the inning. Blake Stein allowed six runs and was stuck with the loss. Mike Sweeney was 2-6 on the afternoon. He’s hitting .342 and leads the American League batting race by three points over Bernie Williams of the Yankees.
