Park Hills Company Being Sold To Canadian Interests

September 9, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

The Flat River Glass Company in Park Hills is expected to be under new ownership soon. Alcan Incorporated of Montreal, Canada, is expected to sell its glass division to Glass Group Incorporated within 30 days. The deal includes the plant in Park Hills, plants in New Jersey, and 46 percent of an unknown business in Beijing. The Park Hills plant employs about 500 people and is one of only 55 left in the United States. Alcan announced last December that it wanted to sell its glass container business – blaming the shift to aluminum and plastic packaging, among other things, for a weaker demand of glass. None of the 500 jobs is expected to be lost when the new company takes over.
