Fears over possible terrorist attacks in the days leading up to September 11th are being dismissed by the owners of the state’s only commercial nuclear power plant. AmerenUE owns and operates the Callaway nuclear plant near Fulton, in mid-Missouri. Ameren’s Mike Cleary says the company has implemented tougher security procedures in the wake of last September’s attack. One of the changes, according to Cleary, involves the so-called stand-off distance – the distance a vehicle can get to any of the important buildings at the power plant.
