Governor Bob Holden is targeting the State Department of Transportation and the State Transportation Commission over the defeat of Proposition B – the transportation measure on the August 6th ballot. The Governor addressed a gathering of the Transportation Commission – meeting in Springfield – demanding MoDOT take immediate action to restore credibility in the Department. Holden says the vote on August 6th was, in part, a vote of “no confidence” in MoDOT, and he’s calling on the Transportation Department to restore trust in MoDOT. Among other recommendations the Governor wants the Transportation Commission to gather public input to hear citizens’ concerns first hand, immediately cut administrative overhead and redirect those savings to road projects, and ensure MoDOT is being managed efficiently. Holden says the public will not vote for higher taxes on any issue if they feel the money is not wisely used.
