The Cardinals disposed of the Reds 3-1 last night ending their four-game home skid. Woody Williams was the starter for St. Louis last night, holding Cincinnati to just four hits and one run over six innings. It was Williams first win since coming off the disabled list last week. With the victory, Williams improved to 7-4 on the season. Dave Veres finished things off with a 1-2-3 ninth inning to get his fourth save of the season. Offensively, Jim Edmonds was all the Cardinals needed. The centerfielder drove in all three runs with a two-run homer in the third and a sacrifice fly in the eighth. The Redbirds will face the Reds again tonight to put the finishing touches on the three-game series. Jamey Wright will make his second start since being traded to St. Louis last week. The Cardinals still lead the National League Central by four games. The Astros kept pace with a win over the Padres last night.Cardinal reliever Jason Isringhausen should be ready to go this weekend according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch this morning. Isringhausen hasn’t pitched since August 25th. He has 28 saves in 32 chances this season.
