A’s Tie Mark Vs. Royals

September 3, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

The Royals are close to becoming the answer to a trivia question. With a loss to the A’s tonight they’ll be the team that allowed Oakland to set the American League record for consecutive wins. The Athletics won their 19th in a row with Miguel Tejada’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth. A’s over the Royals 7-6. Kansas City led 5-0 early on thanks to solo home runs from A.J. Hinch and Neifi Perez in the third inning. In the fourth, Luis Ordaz drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Carlos Beltran singled in two more. The Royals saw that advantage slip away in the fifth and sixth innings as Oakland took a 6-5 lead. Ordaz tied it in the eighth before Tejada sent everyone home. Jason Grimsley got the loss in relief dropping to 3-5 on the season.
