The SMS Bears will try to snap a string of ugly beginnings tonight. They haven’t won a season opener in the last eight years. Randy Ball’s squad will open up the 2002 campaign with Division II East Central from Enid, Oklahoma. SMS went 6-5 in 2001. The SEMO Indians will take on Arkansas-Monticello this evening in Cape Girardeau. The Indians put together a 4-7 mark last year. Two MIAA teams are in action tonight. Missouri Western’s at home against Winona. The Griffons were 8-3 last year and return 10 starters on defense. Southwest Baptist, who surprised the league with a 6-5 mark, is on the road at Tennessee-Martin.
