Talk of a casino in Barnhart, south of St. Louis, has led to organized oppositon to the idea. And, at least one group has taken its concerns to the State Gaming Commission. The very idea of casinos sparks controversy. This latest round centers on a proposal to build a casino at Barnhart – south of St. Louis. Jefferson County politicians are talking to Riviera Casinos officials. But, the group ABC – Against Barnhart Casino – fears a casino would bring corruption and crime. Gaming Commission officials say the proposal is at its very earliest stage – only an application has been filed. The Commission’s new Chairman, Robert Smith, says the first thing the Commission would do would be to vote to investigate the proposal and that point hasn’t even been reached yet.
