Higher tuition and fees don’t appear to be keeping people away from our state universities this fall. Two of the regional universities that have reported opening-day student numbers say enrollment is up by two to five percent. Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau has enrolled 8,753 students, five percent more than last year. Southwest Missouri State University, the state’s second-biggest public university, says enrollment on the Springfield campus is up more than 2%. Opening day enrollment was 17,300.
