Finley Strikes Out 10, La Russa in Top 10

August 22, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

The Cardinals topped the Pirates 4-1 last night. Starter Chuck Finley went eight innings and recorded 10 strikeouts for his fourth win as a Cardinal. St. Louis also took care of business at the plate, scoring all four runs with two outs. In the third inning, Jim Edmonds walked with the bases loaded. Albert Pujols made it 2-0 with an RBI single in the fifth. Later in the frame, Scot Rolen hit a two-run triple. Jason Isringhausen recorded his 28th save. It was also a special night for Tony La Russa. He’s now 10th on the all-time win list for managers with 1,887. Houston kept pace with St. Louis with a 4-0 win over Chicago. The Cardinals remain five games ahead of the Astros in the National League Central.
