State health officials report three more cases of West Nile virus have been discovered among Missourians. All three cases involve St. Louis residents. Officials note the results are preliminary. The latest cases involve a 79-year-old man, a 31-year-old woman and another woman whose age was not reported. This brings to 10 the number of Missourians suspected to have West Nile virus. A spokesman for the state health department says officials understand the rising number of West Nile cases will concern people, however, this is still a rare disease from which almost all people fully recover. The department advises Missourians to use mosquito repellent and eliminate standing water that serves as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The state reported the first death from someone suspected to have contracted West Nile virus earlier. The victim was a 75-year-old woman from St. Louis.
