The Royals dug themselves out of a hole, then got right back in it yesterday, in an 8-6 loss to the Devil Rays. After trailing 3-0, Kansas City scored four times in the fourth inning to take a 4-3 lead. Mike Sweeney and Kit Pellow drove in runs with hits. Luis Alicea and A.J. Hinch had RBI walks. But the D’Rays scored twice in the sixth inning and three times in the seventh and never trailed again. Mike Sweeney got the Royals close, with a two-run homer in the top of the ninth, but that’s where the rally ended. Jeff Suppan was the losing pitcher, dropping to 8-13 on the season. The Royals head to Toronto for a three-game series.
