At Hidden Valley Sports Complex in Blue Springs, the Mid-South Regionals of the American Legion baseball tournament got underway yesterday. State Champs, Springfield Hillcrest topped Edmond, Oklahoma 4-2, improving to 44-9 on the season. They’ll face Jonesboro, Arkansas today. They lost to Omaha 4-3. Blue Springs, who got an invitation by hosting the event, dropped to 36-18 with a 10-0 loss to West Point, Mississippi. Blue Springs will take on League City, Texas who topped Gonzales, Louisisana 5-4. Three Missouri teams have won the American Legion World Series. Ballwin was the last one to do it, winning the championship in 1972. The winner of the Regional will join seven other teams in the World Series in Danville, Virginia next week.
