Despite rising costs, Missourians still pay less for car and pickup insurance than people in many other states. Missouri ranks 32nd among the 50 states and the District of Columbia in car insurance costs the same ranking the National Association of Insurance Commissioners gave the state in 1999. State Insurance Director Scott Lakin says, overall, Missouri drivers pay an average of $611 to insure each vehicle $75 less than the national average. Lakin says Missouri relies on competition to drive rates lower, not a system of state government rate-setting. There are about 4-Million passenger cars and trucks on the road inMissouri. The low ranking is estimate to save the state $300-Million in insurance costs.
