The Royals fell to the Yankee’s 3-2 in 14 innings. Blake Stein gave up an RBI single to Bernie Williams in the top of the 14th to put New York on top. The Royals certainly made things interesting. Mike Sweeney gave Kansas City a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning when he stole home on Andy Pettite. The last Royal to steal home was Fred Patek in 1977. Sweeney went 2-6 last night. He’s 4-11 since returning to the team. Paul Byrd pitched nine innings and didn’t factor into the decision. Coming into the game, Byrd pitched complete games in four of his previous six starts. Blake Stein got the loss dropping to 0-3.
